On 24 March 2022, Genmed and South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC) were chosen as this year’s winners of the HSJ Best Acute Sector Partnership with the NHS Award in recognition of their innovative and collaborative partnership over the past 12 months.

This included developing an additional operating theatre, pre-theatre ward and clinical consulting room, which opened in July 2021 and is supporting the NHS in addressing waiting list numbers, treating an additional 792 patients for orthopaedic procedures since opening.

Genmed’s Chief Operations Officer, Jolene Rayner, said: “We are delighted to be this year’s winners, along with SWLEOC, of the HSJ Best Acute Sector Partnership with the NHS Award. This is in recognition of Genmed’s dedication to improving healthcare and effective collaboration with SWLEOC on their new theatre project; to deliver additional capacity, technology and value through surgery managed services.

I would like to thank everyone involved with the new theatre project and everyone in the Genmed team who has supported the project. We are very proud of what has been accomplished and the benefits this will deliver to SWLEOC patients and staff.”

Genmed was appointed as SWLEOC’s managed service partner in June 2016 to provide financial and operational efficiencies for SWLEOC in all its non-clinical areas. As part of the ongoing partnership, Genmed managed the entire theatre development project, converting offices previously used for administration, and arranged funding and procured all the required equipment for the successful completion of the project.

Mary Richardson, SWLEOC Hospital Director said: “The new orthopaedic theatre six and pre-assessment area are a fantastic facility for patients. The pre-assessment area provides the privacy and dignity patients require whilst getting ready for surgery as well as an excellent facility for our anaesthetists and surgeons. The new theatre is an extremely modern facility with excellent technology, including for observing surgery as it takes place, which also provides a great teaching opportunity for trainee doctors.”

Standing out amongst tough competition from many other exemplary nominees, the SWLEOC/Genmed partnership has been selected as the winners of this award based on their collective ambition, visionary spirit, and the demonstrable positive impact that their project has had on patient outcomes and staff experiences.

The judging panel commented, “This entry showed clear gains from the partnership in terms of patient experience and patient flow. The presentation demonstrated partnership at multiple levels and layers, together with a strong sense of flexibility and ambition to ensure the patient perspective is at the heart of service delivery – they are very worthy winners.”
