A new theatre at the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC) opened in July 2021 and is supporting the NHS in addressing waiting list numbers, treating more than 900 additional patients for orthopaedic procedures since opening. Genmed was appointed as SWLEOC’s managed service partner in June 2016 to provide financial and operational efficiencies for SWLEOC in all its non-clinical areas. As part of the ongoing partnership, Genmed funded and procured all the required equipment and project managed the complete theatre development project, by converting offices previously used for administration.
Mary Richardson, Hospital Director said: “The new orthopaedic theatre and pre-assessment area are a fantastic facility for patients. The pre-assessment area provides the privacy and dignity patients require whilst getting ready for surgery as well as an excellent facility for our anaesthetists and surgeons.
The new theatre is an extremely modern facility with excellent technology, including to observe surgery as it takes place as well as providing a great teaching opportunity for trainee doctors.”
Genmed has also sourced and managed the build of a new consultation room within the reception area. This consultation room will, in the main, support the ‘Day Zero’ patient pathway which supports both patient outcomes and waiting lists.
Genmed’s Director of Operations, Jolene Rayner, said: “I would like to thank everyone involved with the new theatre project and everyone in the Genmed team who have supported the project. We are very proud of what has been accomplished and the benefits this will deliver for SWLEOC patients and staff.”
